I believe that you can learn the most important lessons about NY by just walking in the streets. Each street in that city is different in a different way. You see different people, people of all races, cultures and what not. Different stores and restaurants that some people have been going to for years and some may just have stepped foot in for the first time. I believe that you can learn so much about this city from the people. Walking around the city as a little kid I learned so much. The most important thing I learned though is to never talk to the wrong person. I remember we were waiting for a cab and this guy just swooped in and took the one that we were waiting for. That did not sit tight with my father and the guy just looked at him, opened up his jacket and showed a knife and said to us “I recommend you let me take this cab”. It was scary at the moment for sure but looking back at it, that moment taught me a lot about the city of NY and the type of people that have lived in it for decades. Don’t get involved with the wrong person.
